Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz addressed reporters outside the courthouse on Friday after a judge declared a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy murder case, pbs.org reports.

"This case was about Lindsay Clancy and what she did — the cruel and calculated killing of three innocents," Cruz said. He described the victims as "those beautiful babies" and stressed that seeking justice for them remained the prosecution's core obligation.

Cruz confirmed that no immediate decision had been made regarding a potential second trial.

The district attorney also addressed arguments raised during proceedings about postpartum mental health. "This case is not about the healthcare system, or about how women are treated in it," he said, adding that the investigation "did not establish" that the killings were caused by postpartum depression.

"I understand that postpartum depression has impacted the lives of countless women and families, and I sympathise with their struggles," Cruz said. "The investigation in these heinous killings, however, did not establish that they were caused by such depression."

The press conference was interrupted by members of the public. One person shouted, "You only cared when the kids were dead. Why didn't you care about the mother?" Another called out, "God bless those children," as the event concluded.

Cruz acknowledged the charged atmosphere surrounding the case. "I understand that this has been an emotional trial for everyone," he said.
