Mom Pulls .38 at Elementary School Drop-Off in Mint Hill, NC After Road Rage

A North Carolina mother drew a handgun on another woman at an elementary school after a road rage dispute. Jodie Abrams, 37, faces felony and misdemeanor charges.

Gun Drawn at Mint Hill Elementary School During Morning Drop-Off

A mother dropping her children off at Mint Hill Elementary School in Mint Hill, North Carolina, pulled a loaded handgun on another woman Thursday morning following a road rage dispute in the school's parking lot, according to Law & Crime.

Jodie Abrams, 37, faces a felony charge of carrying a gun on educational property and a misdemeanor charge of communicating threats, court records reviewed by Law & Crime show. She was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail on Thursday and posted a $50,000 bond the following day.

The incident began around 8:15 a.m. as Abrams drove through the school's drop-off lane. Another woman "supposedly" attempted "to run Abrams off the road," according to a case affidavit. Abrams left the school grounds and followed the other woman onto nearby Idlewild Road.

There, Abrams allegedly reached into her glove box, retrieved a Charter Arms .38 Special handgun, and displayed it to the other woman while driving past her. She then placed the weapon on the front passenger seat.

According to the affidavit, before exiting her vehicle, Abrams "pointed the gun at her own head" so the other woman "could see her as a threat." Officers from the Mint Hill Police Department responded to Idlewild Road in connection with "a road rage incident involving a firearm" and determined the confrontation had originated in the school's drive-through lane just down the road.

Abrams was arrested at the scene. Court records show she made her first appearance in court on Friday. No date has yet been set for her next hearing.

Mint Hill is a suburban town located just southeast of Charlotte, North Carolina's largest city.
