A 27-year-old music instructor from Long Island, New York, has been taken into custody on accusations that he sexually assaulted and then killed his sister-in-law inside the family home while his wife was traveling.

According to authorities, the man invited the 25-year-old victim — his spouse's sibling — to help move a piano at the couple's residence in North Massapequa. Prosecutors allege that once she arrived, he attacked her from behind, choked her until she lost consciousness, and then raped her.

Following the assault, police say the suspect himself dialed 911 and remained at the scene until officers arrived. Authorities report that he admitted to attacking the woman, who was rushed to hospital but later died from her injuries.

The prosecution maintains that the accused had harbored an obsessive attraction toward the victim since 2017, years before the fatal incident. The deceased was a doctoral candidate at Stony Brook University and lived on the ground floor of the same house, while the accused and his wife occupied the upper level.

He has been charged with second-degree murder and pleaded not guilty at his first court appearance. A judge ordered him held without bail. The school district where he was employed announced he has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of judicial proceedings.

His defense attorney described the case as a tragic family matter, noting that the client had previously enjoyed a positive reputation as an educator. The investigation by American authorities remains ongoing.
