Nine people have been arrested and nearly $5 million in currency and assets seized following a large-scale law enforcement operation targeting smoke shops across East Texas, kltv.com reports.
On 22 September, the Texas Department of Public Safety executed search warrants at 13 Scorpion Smoke Shop locations in Van Zandt County, focusing on the alleged illegal sale and distribution of THC and hemp products, according to the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office (VZSO).
Authorities recovered 11,468 suspected THC products, 5,475 grams of marijuana, 33,455 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, and 23 vehicles, in addition to the nearly $5 million in cash and other assets.
The nine individuals arrested on warrants were booked and held at the Van Zandt County Detention Center, according to jail records. Specific charges were listed in connection with the illegal narcotics distribution operation.
The VZSO coordinated the effort alongside the Canton Police Department, the Kaufman County District Attorney's Task Force, the Terrell Police Department, and the Wills Point Police Department.
