Minot Couple Arrested After Infant's Remains Found in Concrete-Filled Container

A couple in Minot, North Dakota, has been charged with multiple felonies after authorities discovered the remains of their infant concealed inside a concrete-filled tote, Law & Crime reports.

Craig Michael Kerzmann, 49, and Sarah Kerzmann, 45, were each charged with one count of failure to report the corpse of a child and one count of disturbing a human burial site. Craig Kerzmann faces an additional felony charge of domestic violence resulting in serious bodily injury.

Officers from the Minot Police Department responded to the couple's residence in southeast Minot at approximately 4:18 p.m. on Saturday following a reported domestic violence incident. During the investigation, authorities learned of a deceased infant believed to be the couple's child.

"Investigators received information that the child died approximately three years ago in another state and that the death was not reported to law enforcement at the time," police wrote in a press release. "Investigators were told that the infant's remains were believed to be located in a tote containing concrete."

Officers subsequently located a container matching that description. The tote was transported to the North Dakota State Forensic Examiner's Office in Bismarck for evaluation.

It was not immediately clear how the domestic violence investigation led to the discovery of the infant's remains. Investigators have not disclosed details about the circumstances of the child's death.

Police said they are coordinating with law enforcement partners in Texas, where the infant is believed to have died.

Craig Kerzmann was booked into the Ward County Jail, where he is being held without bond. He is scheduled to make his first appearance before Judge Steven Lautt on Monday. Sarah Kerzmann was arrested while receiving medical care and is expected to be transferred to the Ward County Jail once cleared by physicians.
