The New York Police Department has released a photograph of a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting that injured two people near the New York Carnival Parade on Labor Day, abc7ny.com reports.

According to police, the suspect shot a woman in the leg and a 19-year-old man in the foot at around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue. Both victims are in stable condition.

The incident was one of several separate shootings in Crown Heights that afternoon. A third victim was struck by gunfire in front of 800 Nostrand Avenue at St. John's Place, just north of Eastern Parkway. In total, three people were shot in the area during the parade festivities.

Earlier in the day, five people were stabbed in the hours before the parade got underway. All five were expected to survive.

The violence occurred despite extensive security measures put in place by the NYPD, which has in recent years attempted to curb the shootings and stabbings that have repeatedly marred the annual event. Last year, six people were shot — none fatally — and one person was slashed.

Police are asking anyone who recognises the suspect in the released photograph to come forward and contact authorities.
