Ohio Man Arrested for Threatening to Kill Trump and Florida Congressman

Ohio Man Charged With Threatening Trump and Florida Congressman in Expletive-Laden Email

A 26-year-old Columbus, Ohio man faces federal charges after allegedly sending a graphic death threat to a Florida congressman and calling for the murder of President Donald Trump, Law & Crime reports.

Federal authorities arrested Alex Justin Miller and charged him with one count of interstate transmission of a threat to injure, the Justice Department announced. The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the Middle District of Florida, the FBI opened an investigation into Miller after the Brevard County Sheriff's Office contacted the agency on Aug. 18 regarding a threatening email he allegedly sent to a sitting congressman, identified in court documents only as "Victim 1." Cincinnati-based Fox affiliate WXIX identified that lawmaker as Florida Republican Rep. Randy Fine.

The email, sent at 9:02 a.m. from a Gmail account later traced to Miller, carried the subject line: "Can't wait to snipe your head off your shoulders!!:)" The body of the message threatened to travel to the congressman's home, set it on fire, and kill him and his family while they slept. The message concluded with an all-capitalized declaration: "DEATH TO [VICTIM 1] AND DEATH TO DONALD TRUMP!!!"

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office submitted emergency disclosure requests to Google and Charter Communications to identify the account holder. Google records linked the Gmail address to a Google Voice telephone number and a Google Pay account listing the subscriber as Alex Miller. An open-source search of that telephone number also pointed to Miller, according to the complaint.

Login records showed the Gmail account had been accessed from an IP address that Charter Communications associated with a service address on Arden Forest Lane in Columbus. Ohio Department of Motor Vehicle records listed the same address as the current driver's license address for Miller.

Investigators further identified Cash App and Venmo accounts tied to the same Gmail address, both using the name Alex Miller. A separate emergency disclosure request for the Google Voice number produced a forwarding number linked to the same Columbus address.

It was not immediately clear when Miller was scheduled to appear in court.
