Oregon Man Fires 200+ Rounds at Drone, Flees on Tractor Before SWAT Arrest

A 53-year-old Oregon man was arrested Saturday after shooting at arborists and a law enforcement surveillance drone before attempting to escape on a compact red tractor, NY Post Metro reports.

Erik Gordon Shunn was taken into custody in Clackamas County following a standoff that lasted roughly an hour after the initial 911 call. Video footage captured Shunn lying on his back and firing upward at a drone deployed by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. Investigators now believe he discharged more than 200 rounds during the incident.

When Shunn set his rifle down and climbed onto the tractor in an apparent attempt to flee, SWAT personnel moved in. An armored vehicle was used to pin the tractor in place, allowing officers to safely take him into custody.

"SWAT personnel used this window of opportunity because they believed it provided the highest likelihood of safely apprehending Shunn," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

First responders evacuated neighboring residents and workers from the surrounding area. No injuries were reported.

Shunn was arraigned Monday in Clackamas County Circuit Court on nine criminal counts, including attempted murder, attempted assault, weapons offenses, and interfering with a peace officer. He remains held without bail at the Clackamas County Jail.
