Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that Christopher Laureda, 19, of Orlando, was arrested following a deadly crash in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Laureda ran a red light at the intersection of Central Florida Parkway and International Drive at around 2:45 a.m., striking another vehicle. The car he was driving flipped onto its left side on impact.

The driver of the other car, a 29-year-old man from Connecticut, was taken to hospital where he later died. A 23-year-old Connecticut woman travelling with him sustained serious injuries, troopers said.

After the collision, Laureda fled on foot, leaving his three passengers at the scene. Those passengers, along with Laureda himself, sustained only minor injuries.

Orange County Deputies located and detained Laureda before Florida Highway Patrol troopers formally made the arrest. He now faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and DUI manslaughter.

A criminal investigation is ongoing.
