Johnstown Woman Charged After Man's Remains Found Rotted Through Attic Floor

Angela Rice, 41, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor abuse of a corpse after authorities say she concealed a man's body inside the attic of a home on the 100 block of Adams Street in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, according to court records reviewed by Law & Crime.

The victim, 36-year-old Gregory Hatton-Rohn, had been reported missing before his remains were discovered on June 29, 2024. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees described the scene at the time: "We have a body that's been deceased five to six months, wrapped in a tarp, put in a crawl space off of a third-floor bedroom." By the time investigators reached him, Hatton-Rohn had decomposed "down to the skeletal remains" and, reportedly, through the floor beneath him.

Johnstown is located approximately 60 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Detective Sergeant Cory Adams of the Johnstown Police Department said the case was unlike anything he had encountered in his career. "I have about 40 murder investigations under my belt and countless other death investigations," Adams said. "I've never even seen a body hidden the way this one was. This was brand new to us, and I can say that, even looking at the spot where the body was recovered … they hid him very well."

Authorities had been seeking Rice for at least a year in connection with Hatton-Rohn's death. In the summer of 2025, a witness came forward and told investigators that Rice had admitted to hiding the body "in the walls" after Hatton-Rohn apparently overdosed, according to local NBC affiliate WJAC.

Rice was not taken into custody until officers with the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force located her at a residence in Schenectady, New York, this month. She is currently held at Cambria County Prison, where she has been unable to post $200,000 bail, court records state.

Authorities have indicated that additional charges are expected as the investigation continues. Rice is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on September 10.
