A 54-year-old man is in custody after opening fire at workers inside a Raleigh auto repair shop on Saturday, wral.com reports.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. at New Life Auto Care on Renfrow Road. The suspect, Elvin Fields of Henderson, had previously left his vehicle at the shop for repairs.

When Fields returned Saturday to collect his car, he disputed the amount he was told to pay. Police said he then drew a pistol and fired at an employee standing behind the counter before demanding his keys. Fields proceeded into the auto bay, where three employees were present, and again demanded his keys be returned.

The employees complied. Fields walked outside and fired a second shot into the ground in the direction of the employees before driving away from the scene.

Officers subsequently arrested Fields and recovered two firearms and a bulletproof vest he had been wearing under his shirt. No employees were injured.

Fields now faces 13 charges in total. Among them are multiple counts of second-degree kidnapping. Warrants state that for each employee, Fields "removed the victim from one place to another, without the consent of the victim, and for the purpose of terrorizing" them.
