Richmond Police Seize Two Illegal Firearms in Separate Operations Within Hours

Two Illegal Weapons Off Richmond Streets in a Single Day

The Richmond Police Department recovered two illegal firearms within hours of each other during separate operations, contracosta.news reports, citing information released directly by the department.

In the first incident, officers responded to a report of a person brandishing a firearm in the 2300 block of Aberdeen Way. Officers quickly located the suspect and secured the area. Using video surveillance footage, they traced the suspect's backpack to a nearby location. A search of the bag produced a loaded short-barreled AR-15-style rifle with no serial number — commonly referred to as a ghost gun.

Within hours, Officer F. Garcia conducted a routine traffic enforcement stop and made contact with the vehicle's driver. Garcia immediately observed a firearm tucked into the driver's waistband, fitted with an extended magazine. The driver was taken into custody without incident. The weapon was identified as a Glock 20 equipped with an illegal full-auto conversion switch, enabling it to fire continuously like an automatic weapon.

The Richmond Police Department described the two recoveries as examples of the proactive enforcement work officers carry out daily to keep illegal firearms away from individuals who pose a threat to public safety. The department stated it remains committed to removing illegal weapons from circulation, preventing violent crime, and making Richmond a safer place to live, work, and visit.
