A 19-year-old man has been arrested on 12 felony charges, including statutory rape, following an investigation into an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student at Grossmont High School in El Cajon, California, Google News MT — Crime (en) reports.

The El Cajon Police Department (ECPD) announced Tuesday that it had obtained an arrest warrant for Jayden Joe Lang of San Diego. Lang had been employed at the school as a "performance expert" before his termination.

According to the ECPD, school staff first alerted authorities in April after discovering the relationship. The department stated that the alleged conduct took place "for approximately one month between March and April." Upon learning of the matter, the Grossmont Union High School District immediately dismissed Lang from his position.

The ECPD said it conducted a thorough investigation before securing the warrant. "There are no other known incidents involving this suspect," the department stated, adding that both the ECPD and the Grossmont Union High School District "are committed to the safety of students and to thorough investigations to ensure justice for victims and accountability for offenders."

It remained unclear on Tuesday whether Lang was still in custody.
