Rachel Frislid, 62, was found dead inside her home at 26 Pearl Court in Sayville, Long Island, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening, following what authorities described as a violent assault, abc7ny.com reports.

Suffolk Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina confirmed that a family member discovered Frislid shortly after the attack took place. "A family member found her, and it was a short time after the assault occurred," Catalina said. Frislid was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said none of her family members are believed to have been present in the home at the time of the killing, and authorities are not aware of any prior domestic incidents reported at the address.

Police have characterised the killing as a targeted attack and said the wider community faces no ongoing threat. "The residents have nothing to fear regarding this attack. We do believe this was a targeted attack," Catalina stated.

Neighbours described Frislid as a warm and well-liked member of the community. Timothy Butler, who knew her personally, said her death has left those around her shaken. "Rachel was a sweet woman. She will be sorely missed, and we are just having a really hard time with it," Butler said.

Peter Woram, who shared a workplace building with Frislid and had seen her recently, said he was devastated by the news. "To hear that she's dead, I don't know what to say. I'm just heartbroken. It's awful, couldn't imagine a worse thing, she seemed like a lovely lady," Woram said. He added that he hopes investigators will identify a suspect: "Hopefully they find this animal and bring him to justice."

Police confirmed the homicide investigation remains active. No arrests have been announced and no suspect has been publicly identified.
