Seven shot, one killed in Humboldt Park drive-up ambush in Chicago

One dead, six wounded after armed suspects open fire in Humboldt Park alley
A group of armed suspects drove up to an alley in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighbourhood and opened fire on Sunday afternoon, killing one person and injuring six others standing nearby, abc7chicago.com reports. A seventh victim was shot while driving and subsequently crashed into a CTA bus.
The shooting occurred near West Chicago and North Christiana avenues shortly after 12:15 p.m. Two vehicles pulled up to the scene, and multiple armed individuals stepped out before firing, according to Chicago police.
A male victim — whose age was not immediately known — was struck multiple times in the body. He was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name had not been released at the time of reporting.
A 24-year-old man, shot in the leg and stomach, was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. A 14-year-old boy, shot in the thighs, was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition. An 18-year-old man, shot in the shoulder, self-transported to the same hospital in good condition. A 21-year-old man, shot in the leg, and a 26-year-old man, shot in the foot, also self-transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
A 30-year-old woman was shot in the hip while driving nearby. She lost control and crashed into a CTA bus before being taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. The bus driver was transported to a local hospital for observation. CTA #66 Chicago bus routes were temporarily rerouted in both directions via Chicago, Pulaski, Augusta, Grand, Kedzie and Chicago avenues due to police activity.
A resident who lives one block from the scene, Belinda, told abc7chicago.com she was preparing to take her family to church when the shots rang out. "I pray and just ask God to clean up this area. It was a lot better. But today was, like, shocking. And I never heard those many gunshots, because they didn't sound like a gun. It sounded like a machine, you know, like in the army or something," she said.
As an ABC7 crew reported from the scene, neighbours expressed frustration and demanded more be done to make their community safer.
Police had not announced any arrests in connection with the shooting at the time of publication. Area Four detectives are investigating.
