A 16-year-old suspect fled police through a Columbus neighbourhood in his underwear before breaking into a home and holding a victim captive. He was apprehended after a vehicle pursuit.

Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that Columbus police identified a 16-year-old suspect, Trejuan Jackson, after a warrant arrest attempt spiralled into a series of incidents across a north Columbus neighbourhood on Friday afternoon.

Officers were serving an arrest warrant in the area of Stowbridge Drive when Jackson, who had active warrants for aggravated robbery, spotted police at the house. He jumped out of a window and fled on foot.

Neighbours reported seeing a male wearing only underwear hopping fences through the neighbourhood.

Police then responded to a shooting call in the same area at around 12:15 p.m., directing officers to a home on Selbourne Court. Paramedics were treating the homeowner on the front porch upon arrival.

According to a Columbus Police news release, Jackson had broken into the Selbourne Court property and held the homeowner against his will for approximately one hour. He subsequently stole the victim's car keys and attempted to flee in the victim's vehicle.

As Jackson was stealing the car, the homeowner fired a handgun, alerting officers to the location. The homeowner was later questioned by detectives. Crime tape was placed around a GMC pick-up truck in the vicinity.

Jackson was apprehended in the 1000 block of Olmstead Avenue near South Linden following what police described as "a brief pursuit." He remains in custody.

The victim was unharmed. Columbus Police stated no further details were available at the time of reporting.
