Texas executes man for double murder from 2013
51-year-old Cedric Rykks was executed yesterday evening at the prison in Huntsville, Texas, according to fakti.bg, citing Associated Press.
Rykks was sentenced to death for the murders committed in May 2013 of 30-year-old Roxan Sanchez and her 8-year-old son Anthony Figueroa in their apartment in Bedford — a suburb of Dallas-Fort Worth. His death came by lethal injection.
According to court records, Rykks and Sanchez argued in the apartment when the woman's two sons from a previous marriage intervened to stop the fight. Rykks took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Sanchez multiple times. 12-year-old Marcus Figueroa ran to his bedroom and attempted to call the police.
After killing Anthony Figueroa, Rykks stabbed Marcus as well, who pretended to be dead whilst the attacker left the apartment. Marcus survived. Rykks's own 9-month-old son, Isaiah, was not injured, according to court documents.
After the deed, Rykks fled, but was later apprehended in the state of Oklahoma.
