Austin Man Shot Aunt's Boyfriend With AR-15, Citing 'Bad Vibes' and 'Trafficking' Fears

A 21-year-old Austin man fatally shot his aunt's boyfriend with an AR-15 rifle on Aug. 29 because the man gave him "bad vibes," Law & Crime reports, citing an arrest affidavit obtained by local CW affiliate KXAN.

Joitorian Bouye faces a first-degree murder charge and is being held at the Travis County Jail following the shooting death of 35-year-old Tyrell Pordia. Officers from the Austin Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in a residential neighborhood and arrived to find Pordia with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses saw Bouye flee after the shooting, but he was apprehended the same day, approximately half a mile from his aunt's home. When officers located him, he allegedly had a handgun and both 9 mm and .223/5.56 mm ammunition on his person. At the scene, police recovered several fired rifle casings consistent with AR-15 ammunition.

According to the affidavit, neighbors who knew Bouye told police he had been arguing with Pordia — his aunt's boyfriend — about "trafficking" before gunshots were heard. When Bouye's aunt, who had been at a neighbor's house at the time, was interviewed by police, she appeared visibly shaken. Officers said she repeatedly asked, "Why would my nephew do that?" She told investigators she had been inside the kitchen when Pordia stepped out to the patio, and that she heard "popping sounds" shortly after.

The aunt then ran outside and saw Bouye "holding a gun and yelling about 'trafficking,'" before he jumped a fence and fled the area.

After being taken into custody and read his Miranda rights, Bouye told police he had shot Pordia with the AR-15 because Pordia gave him "bad vibes." He also claimed Pordia "wanted him dead" and stated that he suffered from schizophrenia.

Bouye's next court date was scheduled for Sept. 11.
