Three Fugitives Arrested After Armed Standoff at Trumbull Marriott, Connecticut

Three suspects, including two fugitives linked to a multi-state tool theft ring, were arrested after a one-hour standoff with police at a Trumbull, CT hotel.

Three individuals were taken into custody at the Trumbull Marriott on Hawley Lane just after 11:15 a.m. on Monday, following a standoff lasting approximately one hour involving local police and United States Marshals, Google News MT — Crime (en) reports.

The suspects — Bryce Laister, 34, of North Haven; Tyler Paolini, 32, of Trumbull; and Alexus Urban, 30, of Old Saybrook — were apprehended after threatening to shoot officers and members of the US Marshal Service who arrived at the hotel with an arrest warrant for Laister.

Officers had gone to the Hawley Lane property after learning that Laister and Paolini had checked in the previous evening and remained in their room overnight. Both men are known fugitives and are linked to a multi-state commercial theft ring responsible for stealing tens of thousands of dollars' worth of power tools from businesses across New England.

During the standoff, portions of the Marriott were evacuated and the surrounding parking lot was locked down while police attempted to negotiate the trio's surrender. All three ultimately gave themselves up later that morning, though not before causing extensive damage to the hotel room.

Charges and bonds

Laister faces the most serious set of charges. Trumbull Police charged him with Threatening in the First Degree, Interfering with an Officer, and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree. He was held on a $100,000 bond. A separate warrant was also served charging him with numerous misdemeanour motor vehicle violations, carrying an additional $15,000 bond. On top of the local charges, Laister faces a federal Violation of Parole count.

Paolini was charged with Interfering with an Officer and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree and held on a $100,000 bond. He was additionally charged as a Fugitive From Justice and held on a further $500,000 bond. Paolini faces extradition to New Hampshire to answer several larceny warrants there.

Urban was charged with Interfering with an Officer, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was held on a $25,000 bond. Authorities also found two active warrants against her from Groton for Failure to Appear in Court in connection with a prior drug paraphernalia charge.

Vehicles seized, investigation continuing

Detectives seized two vehicles at the hotel on the day of the arrest and are working to obtain search warrants for them. The investigation into the multi-state commercial theft ring remains open. Laister and Paolini are additionally suspected of involvement in further tool thefts from retailers elsewhere in Connecticut.
