Prosecutors identified the defendants as Adrian Ortiz Moreno, also known as "El Apache," Martin Castro Jr. and Juan Martinez Ramirez. They face charges including conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute, and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The alleged organisation is said to have been active from at least 2024 through early August of this year, moving fentanyl, drug money and firearms. Prosecutors said the case forms part of a Homeland Security task force operation targeting transnational drug networks supplying fentanyl to U.S. communities.

Four additional individuals are named in the same federal indictment. Seven defendants in total have been charged in the case, which was previously described as a major Las Vegas federal fentanyl conspiracy.

Some of the charges carry a maximum penalty of life in prison if a conviction is secured. A jury trial is scheduled for 19 October before U.S. District Judge Cristina Silva.

Federal authorities noted that the charges remain allegations and that all seven defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
