Three charged after fairground assault leaves victim with serious injuries

Two Kingston residents and a man from Catskill have been charged with felony gang assault following an attack on a 29-year-old man at the Dutchess County Fair, dailyfreeman.com reports.

State police responded to the fairgrounds in Rhinebeck at 8:47 p.m. on August 29 after receiving a report of a fight in progress. Officers found the victim bleeding from his face with visible swelling around his left eye.

Investigators determined the man had been standing in a ride queue when he was attacked by Ryan A. Depew, 32, of Catskill, Lloyd D. Depew, 31, of Kingston, and Dennis J. Appollonia, 36, also of Kingston. The victim sustained serious physical injuries and was transported to Kingston Health Alliance Hospital for treatment.

Appollonia was arrested on August 30 and charged with second-degree gang assault — a felony — along with three misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center on $5,000 cash bail, $10,000 bond, or $15,000 partial bond, with a court date set for September 3.

Ryan and Lloyd Depew were arrested the following day and faced identical charges: second-degree gang assault and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The pair were arraigned in Hyde Park Town Court and released on probation, with a return date of September 17.
