Three people were shot in separate incidents in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on Monday afternoon as the New York Carnival Parade was under way nearby, abc7ny.com reports.

A 24-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in front of 800 Kingston Avenue. Police took one suspect into custody and recovered a firearm at the scene.

A 37-year-old woman was subsequently shot in the leg at Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue. A 19-year-old man was then found at the same location with gunshot wounds to both legs. Two suspects fled on foot toward Albany Avenue — one wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans, the other a white shirt. That suspect remains at large.

All three victims were transported to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

The shootings occurred despite extensive security measures deployed by the NYPD in an effort to curb the violence that has repeatedly marred the annual carnival. Earlier on Monday, five people were stabbed just hours before the parade began; all five were also expected to survive.

Last year, six people were shot — none fatally — and one person was slashed during the same event.
