Tulsa Man Arrested for Grabbing 1-Year-Old from Shopping Cart at Walmart

Marshall Dixon, 50, was arrested on one count of kidnapping after he allegedly removed a 1-year-old child from a stranger's shopping cart at a Walmart Supercenter in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Law & Crime reports.

The incident took place on Sept. 8 at the Walmart on Memorial Drive in the Burning Tree neighborhood, according to a press release from the Tulsa Police Department. Officers responded just after 5 p.m. to a kidnapping call at the store.

The child's mother told police that a man had approached her in an aisle stocked with household goods, briefly spoke to her about her two children, and then lifted her 1-year-old out of the shopping cart. "The man put the child in his own shopping cart and started walking away," the Tulsa Police Department stated in its release.

The mother immediately confronted the man and retrieved her child. She then took both children into the store's bathroom and locked the door to call for help, police said.

Surveillance footage from inside the store captured the encounter. Still images released by police show a man with his arms around a child suspended over a shopping cart in a household-items aisle.

Walmart employees, alerted to the situation, removed Dixon from the store and called 911. Responding officers located a man matching the suspect's description sitting at a bus stop outside the building shortly afterward.

When questioned about the incident, Dixon told officers, "Yeah, I did that," according to the Tulsa Police Department.

Dixon was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail. Tulsa County Sheriff's Office records, however, did not show him in custody at the time of publication. Court records also indicate the case has not yet been docketed.

Law & Crime contacted the Tulsa Police Department and filed an open records request for further details; no response had been received by the time the story was published.
