Two Bodies Pulled from Dominguez Channel in Carson, LA County — Victims Unidentified
A golfer discovered a decomposed young girl's body in the Dominguez Channel in Carson; a man's body was found in the same waterway the next day. Neither victim has been identified.
Two Bodies Found in LA County's Dominguez Channel Days Apart
A golfer at the Victoria Golf Course in Carson, California, called police earlier this week after spotting the "severely decomposed" body of a young girl floating in the Dominguez Channel — and within 24 hours, a man's body was pulled from the same waterway miles away, NY Post Metro reports.
The girl, estimated to be between 6 and 12 years old, was recovered from the channel and pronounced dead at the scene. Officials described her as weighing between 60 and 85 pounds, standing between 4-foot-4 and 4-foot-8, with brown eyes and short dark brown or black hair. An autopsy is pending to determine her cause of death.
The following day, staff at a nearby refinery spotted a man's body in the channel. Authorities estimated he had been dead for less than 24 hours and noted no obvious signs of trauma. He was described as a Black male between 50 and 60 years old. An autopsy has also been ordered in his case.
At a press conference Thursday, officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said neither victim has been identified and no cause of death has been established for either. They noted that the only known connection between the two cases is the shared waterway — the bodies were found miles apart along the channel.
The Dominguez Channel runs approximately 15.7 miles through southern Los Angeles County.
A local resident who regularly exercises near the channel told ABC 7 he was shaken by the discoveries. "I was going over the [Del Amo Boulevard Bridge] and when I was coming back over, that's when I saw the yellow tape," said John Hollaway. "I started to get off and look down there. I just didn't want that memory etched in my head, especially now knowing it was a child now."
The investigation remains ongoing.
