Kareem Omar Johnson, 34, and Allen Matis, 67, were both taken into custody on Wednesday, according to Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office officials. Each faces charges of DUI manslaughter, failure to render aid, and vehicular homicide in a reckless manner.

Johnson's arrest is linked to a crash on the night of 9 May at the intersection of Northwest 22nd Avenue and Southwest 50th Street. Deputies who responded to the scene found crashed vehicles and an unresponsive man, who was later pronounced dead. Traffic homicide detectives established that Johnson had run a red light and struck the victim's vehicle. He was under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana at the time, officials said.

Matis faces charges in connection with a separate incident on 24 June, near Southwest 57th Avenue and Southwest 29th Street. Authorities say he failed to stop at a stop sign and was speeding when he crashed into the wall of a private residence. Inside the home, 82-year-old Henri Bezy — who had been sleeping — was found unresponsive and trapped beneath Matis' Cadillac Lyriq. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Matis showed signs of impairment, and his blood alcohol level was determined to be above the legal limit.

Both men were booked into jail and were expected to appear in bond court. Attorney information was not immediately available for either suspect.
