'Bank Jugging' Robbery Ends in Arrest After K-9 and Drone Search in New Braunfels
Two Houston-area men have been charged with aggravated robbery following a "bank jugging" incident in New Braunfels, Texas, on Thursday morning, fox7austin.com reports, citing the New Braunfels Police Department.
The incident unfolded around 10:15 a.m. in the 2200 block of Meadow Way, where an adult woman was assaulted in her own driveway shortly after returning home from a bank. An unknown male attempted to steal her purse before fleeing in a greenish-yellow Chevrolet Trax with an accomplice behind the wheel.
Officers located the suspect vehicle using the department's automated licence plate reader system, spotting it turning onto the Interstate 35 access road from North Kowald Lane. When police attempted a traffic stop, both occupants abandoned the vehicle at a gas station at Loop 337 and Business 35 and fled on foot.
One suspect was taken into custody immediately at the scene. The second fled into a wooded area nearby and was apprehended following a search involving police K-9s, drones, and assistance from the Comal County Sheriff's Office. Neither suspect resisted arrest at the time of apprehension, and the victim did not require hospitalisation.
Police identified the two men as Mekhi McKinstry, 22, of Richmond, Texas, and Christian Woods, 20, of Houston. Both were booked into the Comal County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery and evading arrest or detention.
Law enforcement officials described the incident as consistent with "bank jugging" — a pattern in which perpetrators monitor individuals leaving banks or ATMs, follow them to a secondary location, and then commit robbery or vehicle burglary.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities indicated that additional charges may be pending.
