Arrest warrants served at Palm Beach County Jail in January homicide

Two West Palm Beach men already held at Palm Beach County Jail on unrelated charges have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on 2 January, cbs12.com reports.

Travis Towns and Carlos Peavy were each charged in the death of 23-year-old Christopher Coleman, from Lake Worth Beach. Arrest warrants were signed Friday and served while both men were already in custody, according to the Riviera Beach Police Department.

Coleman was shot and killed after the vehicle he was travelling in pulled into the parking lot of a community store at 2617 President Barack Obama Highway. The driver, Brianna Davis, a friend of Coleman's, was not injured when several shots were fired into the vehicle.

The investigation brought together the Riviera Beach Police Department alongside state and federal law enforcement agencies, who followed up on leads and collected evidence to identify those responsible, police said.

Investigators said technology and forensic science were ultimately instrumental in developing the evidence that led to the arrest warrants for Towns and Peavy.

Although the shooting was initially believed to have been targeted, police said there is no evidence indicating that either suspect had any prior knowledge of Coleman.
