Two killed, three officers hurt in Minneapolis shooting

A gunman killed two people and wounded several others, including three police officers, in Minneapolis. The suspect also died, police confirmed.

Two people were killed and several others injured — among them three police officers — after a gunman opened fire in Minneapolis, RTÉ News reports.

Police spokesperson Garrett Parten confirmed at a press conference that the suspect was also dead, though the circumstances of his death remained unclear at the time.

One victim died at the scene. Four people were transported to hospital, where a second person later died.

Three police officers were also taken to hospital, including two who sustained gunshot wounds. Both were in "stable condition," a hospital spokesperson told AFP. One officer was shot in the leg; the other was in surgery. The nature of the third officer's injury was not disclosed.

No motive was mentioned during the press conference. Governor Tim Walz called on the public to "pray for Minnesota," while FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that his agents were responding to the incident.

City officials were expected to hold a further press conference later.
