Two Arrests Made Nearly a Decade After North Omaha Drive-By Killing

Two men have been booked into Douglas County Corrections in connection with a drive-by shooting homicide that took place in North Omaha a decade ago, wowt.com reports.

Destin Martinez, 30, and Percy Eubanks, 30, both face first-degree murder charges. Martinez is scheduled to appear in court on 14 September, while Eubanks has a court date set for 26 October.

According to police, 29-year-old Markell Brewer was standing with friends south of 31st and Decatur Streets shortly before 12:30 a.m. on 4 September 2016, when a vehicle passed and an occupant opened fire.

Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer credited his homicide unit for the breakthrough. "The diligence and dedication of our homicide detectives is a testament to their commitment to solving the most egregious crime in our society: murder," Schmaderer said. "We hope these arrests bring Mr. Brewer's family some measure of justice and closure. However, we know their lives will never be the same, and no arrest can undo the loss they have suffered."
