A 46-year-old woman was shot and killed inside a home on Huron Street in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Google News MT — Crime (en) reports, citing WDIV Local 4.
Officers were initially dispatched to the address following reports of an argument. Upon arrival, they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 35-year-old man, known to the victim, was also found at the property. Police said the man had shot himself and was transported to hospital in critical condition. Authorities described the incident as domestic violence.
A neighbour, Jim Fracassi, told Local 4 he was alerted to the situation when a child from the home knocked on his door seeking help. "I come out and started heading over there, and he got the kids out," Fracassi said. "I told them to go in my house, and I started heading over there between the houses, and then I heard a scream and then a gunshot."
Investigators cordoned off multiple areas of the property with crime scene tape. Evidence markers were visible in the front yard near the home's porch.
Neighbours described the woman as well-liked in the community, particularly among children in the area.
Police have not released further details about what led to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
