A 40-year-old woman was shot dead during a birthday party at a home in Lillington, North Carolina, in the early hours of Sunday morning, abc11.com reports.
Harnett County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at a property on Murchison Lane just before 4 a.m. after a reported shooting. They found Justina Nichole Hodges inside with a gunshot wound. Attendees were already administering first aid when first responders reached the scene.
Harnett County EMS continued life-saving efforts, but Hodges was pronounced dead shortly after 4:30 a.m.
According to deputies, the shooting followed a physical altercation that broke out among several people attending the gathering. At least 20 people were present at the time.
The response was not the first that night. Deputies had attended the same address nearly three hours earlier, around 1:15 a.m., following a loud music complaint, and had spoken with people at the party before leaving.
