A woman was killed and a man found with two gunshot wounds to the head in a reported murder-suicide attempt in Pearl, Mississippi, wlbt.com reports.

Pearl Police Chief Nick McLendon confirmed the incident took place Thursday afternoon. Officers responded to the 2100 block of Vera Street at approximately 12:04 p.m. following a 911 call, according to Pearl Assistant Chief Kyle Himmel.

Arriving officers found a woman lying between a residence and a man in the front yard. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

One weapon was recovered from the location. The initial charge in the case is first-degree murder.

The identities of both individuals have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
