According to the El Paso Police Department, the victim was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. Police have not released her identity.

Officers have a suspect in custody — described only as another woman, also in her mid-30s. No further details about her identity have been made public.

Investigators cordoned off the apartment complex following the attack. The El Paso Police Department said the closure was expected to continue until nightfall, with officers on hand to assist residents returning home during that time.

Authorities said they do not believe anyone else is at risk.
