Work Release Absconder Arrested with Drugs Hidden in Socks, Evansville Police Say

A 40-year-old Evansville man wanted for failing to return from work release was taken into custody after officers found him trespassing at a downtown business — and drugs concealed in both socks, 14news.com reports.

Evansville Police Department officers were patrolling Main Street when they spotted Marcus Bacon on the back patio of a business. A records check during the encounter revealed he had not returned from work release as required.

After Bacon was handcuffed and transported to jail, he told officers he had drugs on him. Police found marijuana in one sock and methamphetamine in the other.

Bacon had first been arrested in March, accused of chasing another man with a knife. Court records show he pleaded guilty to criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and was subsequently sentenced to work release.

He was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges including trespassing and possession of both marijuana and methamphetamine.
