St. Croix Man Charged with Stealing $73,279 from Four Post Offices
Ramon Gantier Jr. faces 12 federal counts for allegedly taking over $73,000 from USPS facilities across St. Croix between October 2024 and March 2025.

St. Croix Resident Faces 12-Count Federal Indictment in Post Office Theft Case
Ramon Gantier Jr. has been indicted on 12 federal counts after prosecutors accused him of stealing $73,279.46 in U.S. Postal Service bank deposits from four post offices on St. Croix over a five-month span, viconsortium.com reports.
The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury and filed in the District Court of the Virgin Islands on October 27. It alleges that Gantier carried out the thefts at the Kingshill, Gallows Bay, Frederiksted, and Sunny Isles post offices between October 2024 and March 2025.
He faces four counts each of stealing government money, theft of property used by the Postal Service, and possession of stolen mail.
Largest incident at Kingshill
The single largest alleged theft took place on or about March 17, 2025, when prosecutors say Gantier took $34,535 in bank deposits from the Kingshill Post Office. Count One of the indictment states that he "willfully and knowingly stole and converted to his own use or the use of another" money belonging to the United States Postal Service. Counts Two and Three allege related offenses from the same incident, including the theft of more than $1,000 in U.S. currency and knowingly concealing stolen mail.
Earlier incidents across three facilities
On or about December 4, 2024, Gantier allegedly stole $15,825 in bank deposits from the Gallows Bay Station Post Office. Counts Four through Six cover that location, citing theft of federal funds, Postal Service property, and unlawful possession of stolen mail.
A month prior, on or about November 8, 2024, he allegedly took $12,864.46 from the Frederiksted Post Office — charges addressed in Counts Seven through Nine, which mirror the same three categories of alleged offenses.
The earliest incident on record occurred on or about October 24, 2024, at the Sunny Isles Station Post Office, where prosecutors allege Gantier removed $10,055 in bank deposits. Counts Ten through Twelve charge him with stealing government money, theft of Postal Service property, and knowingly possessing mail or articles that had been unlawfully taken from that facility.
Federal statutes cited
The charges reference three federal statutes: 18 U.S.C. § 641, prohibiting theft or conversion of government property; § 1707, covering theft of property used by the Postal Service; and § 1708, addressing stolen mail and its unlawful possession or concealment.
The indictment does not specify how Gantier allegedly gained access to the bank deposits, nor does it identify his employment status or any other relationship with the Postal Service. It also does not describe how investigators connected him to the four separate incidents.
Arrest and release
Federal prosecutors initially sought to keep the indictment sealed, citing the need to protect pending charges. The document was unsealed Thursday following Gantier's arrest. He subsequently appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge G. Alan Teague, who authorized his release on a $25,000 unsecured bond. A public defender was appointed to represent him.
The case is proceeding in the District Court of the Virgin Islands, Division of St. Croix.
Gantier is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
