Two Arrested for Fatal Hospital Ground Shooting After Multi-Agency Manhunt

Jah'Sheem Graham, 23, and Kaden Durand, 21, have been charged with first-degree murder and multiple related offenses in connection with a fatal shooting at Hospital Ground on June 16, stthomassource.com reports. Bail was set at $1 million each, according to a Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) report.

Officers responded to Hospital Ground at approximately 3:40 p.m. on June 16 after a 911 call from a concerned citizen reporting gunfire. They found an unresponsive man with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical technicians declared him dead at the scene. His next of kin later identified the victim as Henry.

As the investigation progressed, police obtained an arrest warrant and sought assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service to locate a suspect. On September 28, marshals tracked down and arrested Graham in Orlando, Florida. He was extradited to St. Thomas on Saturday and placed under arrest pending an advice of rights hearing.

Durand was served with an arrest warrant on October 2 by officers of the Criminal Investigation Bureau on St. Croix and was similarly placed under arrest pending his hearing.

Both men face charges of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, possession of an unlicensed firearm within 1,000 feet of public housing, a school or youth center, possession of ammunition, brandishing a deadly weapon, petit larceny, first-degree reckless endangerment, and conspiracy.

VIPD Chief Deborah Hodge credited the arrests to cooperation between the community and law enforcement. "These arrests are a testament to what can be accomplished when the community and Law Enforcement work together," Hodge said. "Through this collaboration coupled with the use of technology we continue to strengthen our ability to solve cases and bring closure to families."

The VIPD also acknowledged the U.S. Marshals Service for its role in the investigation.
