K-9 unit deployed to Hope Town as search for missing American intensifies
Cadaver dogs from the US Coast Guard arrived in Hope Town, Bahamas, on Wednesday morning to assist in the search for Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old woman from Michigan who has been missing since April 4, abc13.com reports.
Advardo Dames, assistant commissioner of the Royal Bahamas Police, confirmed the deployment to ABC News. The K-9 team is operating in the Abaco Islands area, where Hooker was last seen.
Hooker went overboard from a dinghy on the evening of April 4 as she and her husband, Brian Hooker, 58, were travelling from Hope Town to their yacht, Soulmate, anchored at Elbow Cay. Brian Hooker told authorities that bad weather caused his wife to fall into the water.
Brian Hooker was arrested on April 8 and questioned by police. He was released on Monday without charges. His attorney declined to allow him to answer questions about the events of the night Lynette went overboard, citing the pending investigation.
Speaking to ABC News on Tuesday, Brian Hooker said his sole focus remains finding his wife. "No matter how likely or unlikely that is," he said, adding that he planned to return to the boat and seek volunteers to help search additional areas.
When asked whether there was anything he would have done differently, Hooker became emotional. "I will always think there was something I could have done differently," he said. "My one job, my one job was to look out for her, and that has not happened. And I'm gonna keep looking out for her now, the best I can."
