K-9 unit joins search for Michigan woman missing off Abaco Islands

Cadaver dogs from the U.S. Coast Guard are being deployed to Hope Town in the Bahamas to assist in the search for Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old woman from Michigan who has been missing since April 4, abc11.com reports.

Advardo Dames, assistant commissioner of the Royal Bahamas Police, told ABC News the K-9 team would be on the ground Wednesday morning.

Hooker went overboard from a dinghy on the evening of April 4. Her husband, Brian Hooker, 58, told authorities that the couple had departed Hope Town on the Abaco Islands bound for their yacht, Soulmate, anchored at Elbow Cay, when bad weather caused her to fall into the water.

Brian Hooker was arrested on April 8 and questioned by police. He was released on Monday without charges. His attorney has declined to allow him to answer questions about the events of that night, citing the ongoing investigation.

Speaking to ABC News on Tuesday, Brian Hooker said he is remaining in the Bahamas with a "sole focus" of finding his wife, "no matter how likely or unlikely that is." He said he planned "to go back to the boat, and then hire or beg people to help me go find some areas to search."

When asked whether he wishes he had done anything differently, Hooker was visibly emotional. "I will always think there was something I could have done differently," he said. "My one job, my one job was to look out for her, and that has not happened. And I'm gonna keep looking out for her now, the best I can."
