Charges laid in Toronto subway sex attack and East York threats
Authorities in Toronto have detained a man from Oshawa over an alleged sexual assault at a transit hub, and separately arrested an Ottawa resident accused of menacing a parking official.
Investigators say the first episode took place on the afternoon of September 30, shortly after 3 p.m., at Main Subway Station. A female passenger had just alighted from a train traveling eastbound and reached an intermediate floor when an unknown individual followed and sexually violated her. The perpetrator subsequently escaped by foot. Medical personnel noted no external injuries.
Law enforcement circulated images seeking the public’s help. Later in the week, the person of interest voluntarily appeared at a police facility. Officers formally accused 25-year-old Paul-James Cote of Oshawa of sexual assault.
In another matter, police reached the intersection of Pape and Cosburn Avenues early Wednesday around 1:15 a.m. after reports of a conflict. A municipal parking inspector had earlier spotted an automobile being driven in a reckless manner; the same automobile was later seen parked with an expired permit. During an exchange about the ticket, the operator reportedly verbally intimidated the inspector.
The motorist, identified as 34-year-old Suel Doci from Ottawa, was taken into custody. Prosecutors have filed counts of issuing menaces, driving while intoxicated, and refusing to submit to a breath test.
Officials request that observers who recorded either event or hold relevant camera footage reach out to investigators via 416-808-5500 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
