First-degree murder charges after daylight shooting kills 22-year-old in Montreal's Plateau

A woman, 35, and a 17-year-old have been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Jean-Christophe Desrosiers in Montreal. The killing marked the city's 17th homicide of the year.

Google News CA — Crime (EN) reports that a 35-year-old woman and a 17-year-old have been charged with first-degree murder following the shooting death of Jean-Christophe Desrosiers, 22, in Montreal last Thursday.

Desrosiers was behind the wheel of his truck on Henri-Julien Avenue near Carmel Avenue, in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, when he was shot on Aug. 20 in the middle of the day. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

The teen was located near the scene shortly after the shooting and arrested. Their identity is shielded by a publication ban due to their minor status.

Police subsequently linked Véronique Giroux, 35, to the killing and arrested her as well. She is due back in court on Nov. 5, while the teen's court date is scheduled earlier in the fall.

The killing of Desrosiers was the 17th homicide recorded in Montreal this year.
