Loaded handgun and drug cache seized during Mississauga traffic stop
A 21-year-old Toronto man and a 17-year-old, who was already out on multiple release orders, each face at least a dozen charges after Peel Regional Police seized a loaded handgun and a quantity of drugs during a traffic stop earlier this month in Mississauga, Toronto Sun Crime reports.
Officers from the 11 Division Community Incident Response Team launched an investigation on Oct. 5 at approximately 5 p.m. near Martiz Dr. and Derry Rd. W., following a suspected Cannabis Control Act violation involving a vehicle.
During the search, officers found a loaded 9mm Glock handgun fitted with a prohibited 15-round magazine. They also seized more than 79 grams of suspected drugs — including fentanyl, heroin, crack cocaine and crystal meth — along with $1,260 in cash.
"Investigations like this demonstrate the importance of proactive enforcement in addressing the dangers posed by illegal firearms and drug trafficking," Peel Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said in a statement. "By taking a loaded handgun and suspected illicit drugs, including fentanyl, off our streets, our officers are helping disrupt criminal activity and reduce the potential for harm."
Andrews added that Peel Regional Police remain "committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting the safety of everyone who lives and works in Peel Region."
Ibrahim Abdul Hasan, 21, of Toronto, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were each charged with possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, careless storage of a firearm or prohibited device, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited device, carrying a concealed weapon, and four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The teen faces additional charges, including having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available, failure to comply with a sentence or disposition, three counts of failure to comply with an order, and five counts of possession contrary to an order — reflecting multiple alleged breaches of existing release conditions.
