Fugitive nabbed in Saskatchewan over N.L. killing

Google News CA — Crime (EN) reports that David Faucher, wanted across Canada on a charge of first-degree murder, has been arrested in Saskatchewan and will be transferred to Newfoundland and Labrador to face justice.

Faucher is accused in the 2023 death of Franz Drosch, 43, of Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The RCMP formally charged Faucher with first-degree murder in June and issued a Canada-wide warrant shortly after, describing him as "actively evading police." As recently as August 11, the Mounties confirmed the search was still ongoing.

The arrest was carried out by the Saskatchewan Marshals Service, with Saskatchewan RCMP also assisting in the operation. A statement from the RCMP was issued Friday at approximately 5 p.m.

Faucher is believed to be originally from Sherbrooke, Quebec. Police say they will not be releasing details about the circumstances of his arrest in order to protect the integrity of the investigation, but added they anticipate providing a further update "when it is appropriate to do so."

Arrangements are now underway to transport Faucher to Newfoundland and Labrador, where he will face the first-degree murder charge.
