Google News CA — Crime (EN) reports that David Faucher, sought on a first-degree murder charge in connection with the 2023 death of Franz Drosch of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, has been arrested in Saskatchewan.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed the arrest in a statement issued Friday at approximately 5 p.m. According to the RCMP, Faucher was taken into custody by the Saskatchewan Marshals Service, with assistance from Saskatchewan RCMP. Arrangements are now being made to transport him to Newfoundland and Labrador to face the charge.
Faucher, believed to be originally from Sherbrooke, Que., had been the subject of a Canada-wide warrant. The RCMP had publicly charged him with the first-degree murder of Drosch, 43, in June, and as recently as Aug. 11 issued a notice confirming he remained at large. Investigators had accused Faucher of "actively evading police."
Police say they will not be releasing details about the circumstances of the arrest in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, but noted they "anticipate providing an additional update when it is appropriate to do so."
