Surrey man charged with assault after attacking security guard in Vancouver parkade
A Surrey man faces assault charges after striking a security guard with a metal rod in a downtown Vancouver parkade at 4:15 a.m. Saturday. Police also investigate a Langley shooting and a hammer attack on an e-scooter rider.
Surrey man charged after metal rod attack on Vancouver parkade security guard
Vancouver Sun Crime reports that a 41-year-old Surrey man has been charged following an assault on a security guard inside a downtown Vancouver parkade in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to Vancouver police, the incident occurred at approximately 4:15 a.m. when an on-duty security guard patrolling a parkade near Cambie and Dunsmuir streets encountered a man sleeping inside. When the guard asked the man to leave, the man swung a short metal rod at him, damaging a vehicle in the process. The man then pursued the guard on a bicycle.
Minutes later, a police officer located a man matching the suspect's description in a nearby parkade near Cambie and West Georgia streets. Clifford Carreon now faces charges of assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing and is expected to appear at Vancouver's downtown community court the following Monday.
Langley shooting leaves one in serious condition
In a separate incident, Langley RCMP responded to reports of a shooting in the 26900-block of 26A Avenue shortly before 7:25 p.m. on Monday. First responders found an injured person at the scene, who was transported to hospital and remains in serious but stable condition.
Officers later arrested a suspect who had fled the area after he was spotted driving erratically near 256 Street and 24 Avenue. Kyle Jensen, 40, faces multiple charges including break and enter, robbery, firearm-related offences, and theft of a motor vehicle. Jensen remains in custody pending a bail hearing. RCMP described the shooting as an isolated incident and said the motive is still under investigation.
Hammer attack on e-scooter rider in East Vancouver
Vancouver police are also seeking a suspect after a man on an e-scooter was struck in the face with a hammer in East Vancouver. The victim was riding near Gladstone Street and Vanness Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday when a man on a silver bicycle approached from behind and hit him.
Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Megan Lui said police also received a report from a second person who stated he had been threatened with a hammer by a man fitting the same description, though no physical assault occurred in that case.
The suspect is described as white, in his late 40s, with a grey buzz cut and facial stubble, last seen wearing a grey T-shirt, black pants, and black shoes. Anyone with information on any of the incidents is asked to contact police.
