Toronto Police have ruled the death of a 41-year-old man found in a downtown residence a homicide, Toronto Sun Crime reports.
Officers were called to a home near McGill St. and Church St. at 1:43 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, following a report of a sudden death. An autopsy subsequently revealed signs of trauma to the man's body.
Police identified the deceased as Satwant "Sonny" Sangha, 41, of Toronto — the city's 23rd homicide victim this year.

Drive-by shooting damages Ajax home
Durham Regional Police are searching for at least one suspect after a home was struck by gunfire in a drive-by shooting in Ajax on Sunday.
Officers responded just after midnight to the Dooley Cres. and Biggs Dr. area following reports of shots fired and an armed person in the vicinity. At the scene, police found multiple shell casings and damage to the front of a residence. No injuries were reported.

Newmarket man charged with 33 offences in commercial break-in series
York Regional Police have arrested a Newmarket man following a string of more than a dozen commercial break-and-enters across Newmarket and surrounding areas.
According to Toronto Sun Crime, officers launched an investigation earlier this month after a pattern of overnight break-ins was identified at commercial properties between Aug. 3 and Aug. 16. The suspect, police said, forced entry into businesses and specifically targeted safes and cash registers.
Investigators concluded the suspect was responsible for at least 14 commercial break-and-enters in Newmarket. He was taken into custody last Wednesday, and a search warrant executed at a Newmarket home resulted in the seizure of cash trays and break-and-enter tools.
Jonathan Allan, 46, of Newmarket, has been charged with more than a dozen offences, including 10 counts of possession of break-in instruments, 12 counts of committing break and enter, and 11 counts of breach of probation. Police noted that Allan was on probation at the time of the alleged offences.
