Google News CA — Crime (EN) reports that a Toronto man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old in a Scarborough parking lot nearly three years ago.

Justin Longshaw, 39, was arrested Monday following the death of Ding Ping Wang, Toronto police confirmed in a news release. Wang was shot and killed on Nov. 12, 2022, inside a car at an industrial plaza parking lot near Midland and Passmore avenues.

The breakthrough came after investigators recently renewed their public appeal for information. On July 28, police released a facial rendering of the suspect — created with the help of an eyewitness who came forward years after the incident — along with security footage from the day before the murder allegedly showing the suspect travelling the same route used during the shooting.

On Aug. 14, investigators released additional security footage of the suspect from months after the shooting and said they believed he went by the name "Jay." Police also indicated they believed the same individual was connected to an attempted murder near Midland and Passmore avenues on March 10, 2023. That connection remains under investigation, according to Tuesday's release.

Longshaw was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Tuesday.

Toronto police Det. Sgt. Sajeev Nair said at a news conference last month that Wang had no gang ties and did not lead a "high-risk, criminal lifestyle." Nair described the shooting as a targeted act rather than a random one, though the motive remained unclear. Tuesday's release provided no update on a possible motive.

Police are urging anyone with additional information to contact investigators.
