Two Air Canada Employees Arrested by RCMP for Drug Trafficking at Montreal Airport

RCMP arrested two Air Canada ground staff suspected of smuggling cocaine and cannabis through Montreal's Trudeau International Airport. Over 62 kg of cocaine and 56 kg of cannabis were seized.

RCMP Arrests Two Air Canada Staff in Montreal Drug Trafficking Probe

Two Air Canada employees were arrested Wednesday by the RCMP on suspicion of facilitating cocaine and cannabis trafficking through Montreal's Trudeau International Airport, Google News CA — Crime (EN) reports.

The federal police service published a news release Wednesday morning confirming the arrests and stating that search warrants were being executed at two residences and a vehicle in the greater Montreal area. Officers also searched the employees' work base in Dorval, Que., with the airline's co-operation.

Both suspects hold positions linked to ground operations at Air Canada. According to the RCMP, "they are alleged to have participated in a conspiracy to bring and move luggage through secure areas of the airport to facilitate the importation of cocaine and the exportation of cannabis."

The investigation was launched in May after 62.5 kilograms of cocaine, concealed in backpacks, were intercepted from a flight arriving from Punta Cana. A further 56 kilograms of cannabis were seized over the course of the probe.

"The two individuals arrested will be questioned and released pending further proceedings," the RCMP stated.

Air Canada confirmed that both employees have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
