Google News CA — Crime (EN) reports that two Air Canada ground operations workers have been arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in connection with cocaine and cannabis trafficking through Montreal-Trudeau Airport.

The pair are alleged to have participated in a conspiracy to move luggage into secure airport areas in order to facilitate the importation of cocaine and the exportation of cannabis, the RCMP said.

On Wednesday morning, officers conducted searches at two residences and a vehicle in the Greater Montreal area, as well as at what the RCMP described as the employees' base of operations in Dorval.

The investigation was launched last May after 62.5 kg of cocaine were intercepted in backpacks aboard a flight arriving from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. A further 56 kg of cannabis were seized over the course of the inquiry.

Both suspects were questioned and released pending the continuation of the investigation.

"Analysis of the evidence collected could lead to further arrests and charges," the RCMP stated.
