Two men charged with murder in 2023 fatal shooting of Pickering teen Anthony Dixon

Two men have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the 2023 shooting death of 17-year-old Anthony Dixon in Pickering, Ont. Durham Regional Police made the arrests following a lengthy investigation.

Two men have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the 2023 shooting death of Anthony Dixon, 17, in Pickering, Ontario, Global News Crime reports.

Durham Regional Police identified the two suspects after a lengthy investigation. One man was arrested on Tuesday, the second on Wednesday morning.

The shooting took place on June 18, 2023, near Valley Farm and Kingston roads. Emergency crews arrived at approximately 9:40 p.m. and found Dixon with a gunshot wound. Officers and paramedics attempted to save his life; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fawaz Sheikh, 22, of Ajax has been charged with one count of second-degree murder. A second male — a youth at the time of the offence and now 19, from Pickering — also faces a count of second-degree murder but cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Both are in custody pending a bail hearing.

Dixon was a Grade 11 student at Pine Ridge Secondary School. His father, James Dixon, described him as "everybody's world" in remarks made shortly after the shooting in July 2023.

"He did everything a normal 17-year-old was supposed to do," James said. Anthony enjoyed music, basketball, video games, and time with friends, family, and his girlfriend. He regularly helped his parents by picking up his three younger brothers from school.

The family remembered him for his "banter, his silliness (and) his smile in the morning."

"It's hard to think about a day without waking up to him," his father said.
