Two arrested, two still at large after gunmen storm Brampton home
An 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy from Toronto have been charged in connection with a violent home invasion in Brampton that left two residents with gunshot wounds, Toronto Sun Crime reports.
Peel Regional Police say the incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on June 14, at a residence near McLaughlin Road and Steeles Avenue West. Five people were asleep inside when three suspects allegedly forced their way in through a rear glass door. A fourth suspect remained in a vehicle nearby.
A confrontation broke out when the intruders encountered the home's occupants. Two residents sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital. Both victims received treatment and are continuing to recover at home.
Investigators with the Central Robbery Bureau arrested two individuals on July 15. The accused — identified as Javaunie Thomas and a youth whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act — each face multiple charges, including attempted murder using a firearm, aggravated assault, robbery, disguise with intent, discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with a sentence or disposition under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Both accused were held for bail hearings and remain in custody.
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah issued a statement Friday, saying the case illustrates the serious harm such incidents cause beyond the immediate victims.
"Violent home invasions have a profound impact on victims, their families and entire communities," Duraiappah said. "When individuals are targeted in their own homes, it undermines the sense of safety and security that every resident deserves to feel."
He added that the arrests reflect investigators' determination to hold offenders accountable, and that police would not stop there.
"We will continue to pursue every person involved until they are identified, arrested and brought to justice," Duraiappah said.
Police say the investigation remains active, with detectives still working to identify and locate two additional suspects. One is described as a male with a dark complexion, approximately six feet tall with a heavy build, who was armed with a handgun during the incident. No description is available for the second suspect, who is believed to have served as the getaway driver.
Investigators have released video footage showing the accused approaching the home and breaking in through the rear entrance.
